Online Craps Glossary

Before you start gambling familiarize with the most frequent terms that can appear in the game and puzzle you in case you play craps for the first time. The good knowledge of them may polish your craps skills.

Any Craps Bet - betting that a 2, 3 or 12 is thrown on the next shot. The payoff is 7 to 1.

Any Seven Bet - betting that a 7 comes out in the next dice throw. The payoff is 4-to-1.

Big 6/Big 8 - bet that number 6 or 8 occurs before 7 with the next dice shot. The payout is 1 to 1.

Big Red Bet -betting that any 7 is rolled with the next roll.

Buy Bets - the types of bets that allow to bet that a 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8 comes up with the next dice roll before a 7. Every gambler must pay 5% commission on these bets whether the bet appears to be winning or is just performed.

Come Box - the zone on the dice table for Come wagers.

Come Bet - bet that the dice pass with the next roll after the first roll.

Come Out Roll - the first throw in the round. Come out roll indicates the “point” number for Pass or Don't pass bets.

Craps - the numbers 2, 3, and 12 that gave the name of the craps.

Dealer - the casino employee who operates on the craps table. Commonly two dealers work the table.

Don't Come Bet - bet that the dice don’t pass in the next throw.

Don't Pass Line - the betting zone of the dice table for Don’t Pass wagers.

Don't Pass Bet - betting that number 2 or 3 occurs on the initial roll. This bet is winning if a 7 comes up on the dice earlier than the point one.

Field Bet - bet that number 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 comes up on the next shot. The payout on 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 is 1/1, for 2 and 12 - 2-to-1.

Hard Way - bet that "hard" (the same numbers appearing on both dice) 4, 6, 8, or 10 appears on the next dice shot earlier than a "soft" 4, 6, 8 or 10 or a 7.

Horn Bet - bet that a 2, 3, 11, or 12 comes out in the next roll.

Lay Bet - the bets which permit to bet that a 7 will come up earlier than numbers 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8. Each player is charged 5% commission on these bets.

Pass or Pass-Line Bet - betting that a 7 or 11 comes up in the next dice roll or a point falls out earlier than a 7. This bet is made before the Come Out roll. If number 2, 3, or 12 comes up or a 7 comes out on the dice before the point number the bet is losing.

Place Bets - bets that allow to bet on place numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. These bets happen to win when the chosen place number falls out before a 7.

Point - number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 that is thrown on the dice in the Come Out roll.

Right Bettor - the craps player which bets on the Pass Line.

Shooter - the player which throws the dice.

Stickman - casino employee which performs the roll and is responsible for proposition bets.

Vig or Vigorish - the commission paid for some definite bets.

Wrong Bettor - the gambler which places bet on the Don't Pass Line.
